Situated in Colaba, the heart of the bustling city of Mumbai,The Scholar High School is a co-educational institution that imparts education through the medium of English to prepare students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination.

The school was founded in 1961 by Mrs. Mildred Marie Grant. Mrs. Grant achieved the rare feat of completing her graduation at an extremely young age of 16, before starting her career as a high school teacher. She taught in several reputed institutions before fulfilling her dream of opening The Scholar High School.13 January 1961 was the day that The Scholar High School first opened its doors to just 40 students in The Advent building at Foreshore Road. Today, the school has around 550 students from Standard 1 to 10. The school was recently honouredwith the Certificate of Achievement from Education Today for completing 50 plus successful years in Education for exemplary contribution to the field in September 2017.Through the years, the school shifted locations in Colaba until finally it found its home at Henry Road, Colaba – where it has been for more than 40 years.

The school endeavors to create a learning environment true to its motto “True Be The Scholar”. The faculty strive to generate in the pupils a love for learning, a habit of critical thought and accurate expression, and inculcates in them a deep regard for moral values that make life socially meaningful. The school aspires at not merely imparting academic instruction, but also at developing the entire personality of the pupil.Through curricular and co – curricular activities, opportunities are provided to the pupils to develop their intellectual, social, moral, physical and creative abilities. Mostly importantly, the school strives to ensure that each student is happy and every child’s emotional needs are respected and appreciated.

Having been around for more than half a century, Scholar prides itself in being a school that amalgamates experience with innovation. Our recent alteration in school colours from black & white to crimson & yellow reflects the school’s newly reinforced ethos.

Crimson signifies the old and takes root from the forefathers of our nations after whom the school houses have been named. The colour Crimson thus stands for nobility, strength, passion, integrity and confidence – qualities we hope our students imbibe. Yellow signifies the new and takes its meaning from the students for whom the school was created. It is a symbol of the future and signifies youth, optimism, creativity, enlightenment and energy.  At Scholar, we are constantly using our past learnings & experiences to be a school for the future.

We are firm advocates of reinventing and innovating ourselves. We strongly believe in Mr. John Dewey’s statement “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow”.Our students are educated keeping in mind the fact that they will be working & living in a different time. They will need a more unique skillset to solve problems and be prepared for the life that is ahead of them. Keeping this in mind, we also believe that as a school it is our moral obligation to instill in the students a sense of altruism and provide them with the confidence to become salutary and effective agents of the much-needed social change in our country. This is best reflected by our esteemed Alumni body which include doctors, lawyers, journalists and businessmen who continue to give back to society &reflect what the school has embodied since its inception.
